Mark Boal, the writer of Detroit and Triple Frontier, is in negotiations to write the unnamed film. Noah Centineo, the actor behind the teen heartthrob role in many Netflix movies like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, will play a major role. No other casting roles have been announced.
Note that this project is different from the news that MGM acquired the rights to a not-yet-written book by Ben Mezrich about the GameStop stock. These are two separate films.
GameStop’s stock price remains volatile, following a week in which it shot to a high of $347.51, capturing mainstream news attention. The price is fluctuating wildly because of a tug-of-war between institutional investors short-selling the stock, and Reddit-organized day traders determined to hold onto their shares and drive up its price.
As of publication time, the share price is $249.11, still more than 10 times its value earlier this month. The surge of people buying into short-sold stocks has continued with other down-on-their-luck companies, like AMC and Nokia.
The brokerage app Robinhood, which has been a favorite tool of the so-called “meme stock” traders, began limiting purchases of said stocks last week. But shareholders are encouraging each other to continue to hold to send $GME to the moon.
